Most no-start problems in a car park are a flat battery. Here is how to tell, and what to do.
1. Listen when you turn the key or press start
- Rapid clicking, or nothing at all: almost always a weak or flat battery.
- Slow, heavy cranking: the battery is weak; it may start once and fail again.
- Normal cranking but no start: probably not the battery (fuel, ignition or a sensor). Tell us before we come down.
2. Stay safe
If you are on a road, switch on the hazard lights and wait in a safe place. Don't try to jump-start a battery that is swollen, leaking or smells of rotten eggs.
3. Get help
